2021: Dover to Bath
Even though it hasn't been a full year yet (I started this blog in May of 2021), I thought it would be interested to look back at the past eight months of drawing and painting.
The initial impetus to create a blog of my own came from seeing a bunch of urban sketchers online sharing their work. I'd dabbled in drawing and painting a little bit the year before but seeing people like James Gurney and Marc Taro Holmes sketching outside and creating posts and videos about their process made me want to join the fun!
In summer, I took my first class at the Royal Drawing School which was a mixed experience with one great and one bad teacher. That gave me a bunch of new ideas and I shifted my focus to drawing faces. In August, I bought a camera for another project. I did a little bit of photography initially and have done some more recently that I'll share in another post. Practicing composition with my camera is one of the things I'm planning to spend more time on in 2022. A close friend of mine recently moved to London and we're planning to do some street photography together so that should make things even more fun.
In autumn, I went back to the Royal Drawing School for a life drawing class which I enjoyed tremendously. I also took the first half of the foundation course at the London Fine Art Studios which was a very different experience but also one I took a lot away from. I'm going back to both schools this month for another class, expect to see more about that on this blog soon as well.
I'm proud of the progress I've made this year. In many ways, it's wonderful being a beginner and I'm glad to have this blog as a record of how things were before. Already, it's fascinating to look at my earlier posts and see the things I was thinking about then. It's been a great journey already, thank you for following along!
On to another year of drawing the stones!
