30 Days To A Face: Day 15
Hey, welcome back. Today is the halfway mark of the 30 days to a face project. I've been doing quick sketches in between (mostly in meetings, actually...). Right now, I feel more interested in going for quantity and breaking things down than doing meticulous 1-2h drawings of a complete face. Here are the faces (and face fragments) I drew last week:
The first two drawings are exercises from Skill Building for the Beginner Artist. I've slowly been making my way through this book which I enjoy more than the other books I bought right now. It's very practical and unpretentious. Once I've made my way through that, I'm planning to move on to Loomis' Drawing the Head & Hands.
All of the sketches above, with the exception of the first two, are self-portraits. Often, when I draw quickly (and sometimes when I draw slowly), the face that I end up drawing looks like an entirely different person. It's often hard for me to tell why that is. I do have to say that it's fun imagining what personalities would lie behind the faces I draw.
I'm not sure if this is the most efficient way to practice but I'm having fun and that's enough for now. Maybe once autumn comes around and I'm back in the Royal Drawing School (did I mention I signed up for a life drawing course there?), I'll start caring more about accuracy again.
