Drawing Everyday Things: Day 1
Hey there, welcome back. I’ve been having fun painting whatever is in front of me, so I thought I should start a series of everyday things. Today is day 1, let’s see how far I get with it.
I have two sets of paints, one of which is a tiny whiskey bottle style Schminke box which I used to paint both of these paintings. It works well for when I’m at my desk and also when I’m outside hunting for interesting things to paint.
I’m very happy with how the lighter came out, especially the green and yellow colours of the plastic and the liquid inside. I tried drawing shadows with my fountain pen, that didn’t really work but I think it gives the painting a somewhat three dimensional effect. I’d like to be able to achieve that by painting curves eventually but for now, this came out looking alright.
I’m also satisfied with how the car came out. I spent most of my time drawing with my fountain pen and only a little filling in the surfaces with paint. Obviously, the perspective isn’t quite right and I struggled with some of the curves. Still, I’m happy with how I captured it. I’ve been mixing ultramarine and burnt umber for some nice grays and blacks, experimenting with how much water I add and how I vary the proportions of the two paints.
