In-between Faces

In-between Faces

I've been busy again, so not as many posts lately. When I do draw (usually during my commute in the morning), I still use my two grey watercolor pens but I've grown bored of them a little bit lately so I went back to just a mechanical pencil. I used to struggle with value when drawing with a pencil and I'm curious whether drawing with these broad pens has made a difference on that. I've always been fascinated by hatching and it's what I'm planning to focus on next. To this end, I made a copy of a drawing I found in Giovanni Civardi's Drawing: A complete guide which you can see below on the left. Afterwards, I made the self-portrait above using my trusty stand mirror which I'm quite happy with. I'm still a bit timid when it comes to hatching and going for those darker darks but it's nice to not have worry about juggling three pens and just do everything with one pencil.
