Perspective

Perspective

So I finished How to See It, How to Draw It today. It's a very gentle introduction to perspective with lots of pictures and a cool workbook in the back with perspective grids that you can fill in with objects they suggest. The only thing I didn't like about this book is that it smells BAD. Seriously, I had to rush through it because having it on the table in front of me gave me a headache. It's got chapters on one, two and three point perspective and it even has a chapter on curvilinear perspective, that interesting fisheye look where everything bends.

One new thing I learnt from the book was to draw the horizon line and the vanishing points (if they fall within the frame) first. Another trick that I had read in one of the blue urban sketching pocket books but that didn't stick in my mind back then is to draw diagonal lines to create rectangles of equal size in perspective.

I have another book on perspective lying around, Perspective Made Easy, but I think for now, I just need to go and practice a bit. I still struggle to draw circles and curvy objects but I want to build a solid foundation in rectangular perspective before moving on to that.
