Trip To Cologne
Emma and I just came back from a short trip to Cologne. I took my small watercolor kit with me and found the time for a few small sketches.
Before we left, I bought a set of water-soluble wax crayons. I haven't used them much but I'm excited to play with them a little more now that we're back.
While we were there, we went on a hike in the Seven Mountains, a nearby national park with some cool castles and ruins. One of the mountains has a rack railway connecting the valley with the castle ruins at the top which I sketched during a break we took. I painted the same scene twice because I wasn't happy with how on my first painting, everything looked too saturated. I'm very happy with how the final version turned out, it was quite hard for me to separate foreground and background when everything was green but I think I did a good job. I also made a quick sketch to understand how to draw the angle of the front of the train from the perspective of where I was sitting.
